Why Choose Concrete for Your Driveway?

Concrete driveways outlast asphalt by 15–20 years on average and require significantly less ongoing maintenance. A properly installed concrete driveway can last 30–50 years with minimal sealing — making it one of the highest-ROI home improvements you can make.

ConcreterCo contractors install driveways using 4,000 PSI concrete (minimum), rebar or wire mesh reinforcement, and strategically placed control joints to direct cracking away from the main slab surface. Every project starts with proper sub-base preparation — the most critical step that less-experienced crews often rush or skip.

Our Driveway Installation Process

  • Site assessment & layout: We measure your driveway area, assess soil stability, drainage patterns, and slope. Any soft spots are excavated and replaced with compacted gravel base.
  • Sub-base preparation: 4–6 inches of compacted Class II base material is installed and graded to ensure proper drainage away from your home and garage.
  • Forming & reinforcement: Precision wood or steel forms define your driveway edges. #4 rebar on 18" centers (or equivalent wire mesh) is installed 2 inches above grade.
  • Concrete pour & finishing: We use 4,000–4,500 PSI concrete with fiber additive for crack resistance. Slump is tested on-site. Surface is hand-floated and finished to your specification.
  • Control joints: Saw-cut control joints at 8–10 foot intervals guide any shrinkage cracking to invisible, straight lines below the slab surface.
  • Curing: We apply a professional-grade curing compound immediately after finishing. Proper 28-day curing is critical for reaching design strength — we communicate care instructions clearly.

Finish Options

Your concrete driveway finish affects both aesthetics and slip resistance. We offer:

  • Broom finish — The industry standard. Light texture provides excellent traction in wet conditions. Clean, classic look at the base price.
  • Exposed aggregate — Pea gravel or crushed stone is seeded into the surface for a natural, textured look that hides tire marks and minor staining.
  • Salt finish — Rock salt is pressed into the wet surface and dissolved, creating a subtle pitted texture with visual depth.
  • Stamped patterns — Add the look of brick, cobblestone, or slate with integral color and stamped texture. See our Stamped Concrete page for details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most residential driveways are completed in 2–3 days: one day for site prep and forming, one day for the pour and finishing, and optional saw-cutting the following day. You can typically drive on the new surface after 7 days, though full strength takes 28 days.
Standard residential driveways are 4 inches thick. For heavier vehicles (RVs, pickup trucks, trailers), we recommend 5–6 inches with thicker reinforcement. We'll recommend the right spec after reviewing your use case.
All concrete shrinks slightly as it cures, which can cause cracking. Proper control joint placement guides any cracking to predetermined, invisible locations below the surface. With correct installation, visible cracking is rare and is covered by our 5-year guarantee.
Permit requirements vary by municipality. ConcreterCo handles the permit application process in most areas. Our local contractors are familiar with regional requirements and will advise you before work begins.
